GTO is a type of geocentric orbit. Which are destined for geosynchronous or called as the geostationary orbit which is always put into a GTO as an intermediate step for reaching their final orbit. A GTO is basically highly elliptic. It is perigee is typically as high as low earth orbit(LEO), while its apogee is a high as geostationary orbit. That makes it a human transfer orbit between LEO and GSO.
