Difference Between DLP and LCD Projector

DLP and LCD both are the type of DVP called (digital video projection) technologies used for displaying the computer screen over a large type of  LCD screen. The main key difference between DLP and LCD projectors is that DLP works as a reflective technology while LCD is a transmissive method. Definition of  DLP projectors

The DLP stands for digital light processing. It is a reflective projection method that merges a microelectromechanical system called MEMS technology and the projection display with the help of a digital micrometer device microchip. The peculiar microchip is constructed by a MEMS array of semiconductor-based digital light switch that accurately controls a light source.

Definition of  LCD projector 

LCD stands for liquid crystal display. These protectors are constructed using the tiny liquid crystal panels where the transmission of light takes place instead of reflection. It uses three panels for each color. However, a fourth panel can also be used for enhancing the color generation. As we know that the main work of the optical filters is to split the white light from the lamp to three colors and direct them through their respective panel.

Difference between DLP and LCD projector

  • DLP stands for digital light processing, while in LCD stand for liquid crystal display.
  • In while using the DLP projector projects the object over the screen by reflecting the light. while in LCD projector transmits the light to produce the object on the screen.
  • The visibility of pixels in LCD is better than that of DLP because the pixel positioning in LCD is in a manner that creates a large gap between the pixels.
  • DLP projector invented in 1987, while in LCD projector was invited in 1968.
  • DLP projector is a type of projector that uses a digital micromirror device, while in the LCD is a type of projector for displaying video, images or computer data on a screen or other flat surface, the modern equivalent of the slide or overhead projector.
  • LCD produces a wide range of colors appropriate for video playback whereas the DLP generates sufficient colors and which are adjustable.
  • In the DLP projector contrast ratio is higher than LCD, while in LCD protector contrast ratio lower than the DLP projector. 
  • Pixel visibility low in the DLP projector, but the pixel visibility higher in the LCD projector.
  • DLP projector has good picture quality but poorer than an LCD projector. While in LCD projector sharper image, better picture quality than DLP projector
  • The rainbow effect produced in the DLP protector while the LCD projector does not produce a rainbow effect.
  • The misconvergence is the color fringing effect produced by horizontal vertical line, which can be seen in LCD frequently, which can be seen in LCD frequently. While in aginst that, this is not present in a DLP projector.

  1. Digital projectors should be able to accept resolutions of 800×600, 1024×768 or 1280×1024, however it is the natural resolution of the projector that is important. projector
