What does GARP mean?
Requests for the GARP detect duplicate IP addresses. A GARP request is a broadcast request for the IP address of the router. If a router sends an address resolution protocol request for its own IP address and receives no ARP response, the router-assigned IP address is not used by other nodes. If the router sends an ARP request for its own IP address and receives an ARP reply, the router-assigned IP address is already in use by another node.
