VPN vs TOR

What is VPN?

The term VPN refers to a virtual private network. It's a kind of private network that's also virtual. We can use a public network as a private network since VPN is a technique for handling encryption, integrity protection, and certification or authentication. On a public network, it gives the appearance of a private network.

What is TOR?

TOR is a privacy project launched in 2002. It is an open-source and free browser that enables anonymous communication online. It was first developed by computer scientists roger dingledine and Nick Mathewson.

VPN vs TOR | Difference between VPN and TOR:

  • TOR is free to download and use, while the VPN is not completely free you have to pay for it to use all the features.
  • TOR is increases latency and decreases bandwidth, while the VPN can increase the bandwidth but typically slightly decrease it, and increase latency.
  • TOR is decentralized, while VPN is centralized.
  • TOR is not recommended for P2P activity, while VPN is recommended for P2P activity.
  • While TOR is not compatible with all devices, VPN is.
  • TOR is not capable to protect from all online connections, while VPN can protect from all online connections.
  • TOR is slower compare to VPN because of the onion routing, While VPN is faster compare to TOR.
